Crafted from camphor laurel timber sourced locally from the Bellingen Shire in New South Wales, the Bellingen celebrates the beauty of Australian hardwood. Its sculptural, vase-like base is turned from a single piece of timber, with rich honey grain, a crisp camphor scent and a natural hard wax oil finish that repels water and dirt. No two are quite alike.

The base is paired with a choice of shade: a handmade cotton shade for a soft, downward light, or a hand-blown glass shade in green, amber or frosted, whose gently pleated glass scatters a warm, candlelit glow. Every part is user replaceable, so shades can be changed and the lamp kept for years.

It is a quietly sustainable piece, too. Camphor laurel is an invasive species in northern New South Wales, and the Bellingen is made from timber rescued and handcrafted rather than left to be cleared.

The Timber

A celebration of Australian timber

The Bellingen is turned from camphor laurel, a dense hardwood with rich, honey-toned grain, a fine even texture and a crisp, clean camphor scent. Its sculptural, vase-like base is shaped to show the wood off rather than hide it, and because every tree is different, no two lamps share the same colour or grain. A natural hard wax oil finish gives the timber a soft lustre while making it water-repellent and dirt-resistant, and the wood is naturally anti-bacterial, a quiet, practical grace note for a lamp made to live on a table.

The timber is sourced from the Bellingen Shire in northern New South Wales, a part of the country close to the heart of the NEOZ family and the reason for the lamp's name. Camphor laurel is an invasive species there, crowding out native growth, and much of it is felled and left to be burnt. NEOZ works with local communities to collect these trees before they are lost, and the timber is prepared and turned by a local second-generation woodworker. What would have been cleared becomes a handcrafted lamp instead.

The Bellingen pairs its timber base with a choice of shade. A handmade cotton shade gives a soft, largely downward light, while a hand-blown glass shade, in green, amber or frosted, catches the light in its gently pleated surface and scatters a warm, candlelit glow. Either way the effect is intimate and flattering, a contemporary nod to candlelight that settles easily into a dining room, a lounge or a quiet corner at home.

Your Bellingen is made to move, which is exactly why operators asked us to help them keep it close. The Cordless Lamp Lock secures it to the table itself. A low-profile plate fixes discreetly to the surface, the lamp locks on with a single press, and a dedicated key releases it. No tools, no brackets, and nothing a guest would ever notice.

It lets you place cordless light where you could not before. Outdoor terraces, bar tops and street-facing tables can carry your Bellingen with the confidence it will still be there tomorrow. The Cordless Lamp Lock is made from 75% post-consumer recycled polycarbonate.

What is the Bellingen made from?

Shades are interchangeable and available separately, so the look can be changed over time.

Can the Bellingen be used outdoors?

The Bellingen carries an IP30 rating, and its oiled timber finish resists spills and everyday moisture, which makes it well suited to indoor use and to covered outdoor settings such as sheltered terraces and alfresco dining. It is not intended for fully exposed positions in the weather.

How do I care for the timber base?

Wipe the base with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth as needed. The natural hard wax oil finish is water-repellent and stands up well to common spills such as wine, coffee, tea and juice. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, which can dull the finish.

How long does it run, and is it serviceable?

A full charge takes around 3.5 hours and gives up to 17.5 hours of light on high and around 55 hours on low, with brightness set by a touch of the base across three levels. Every major part is user replaceable, including the battery, light source and shade, and the Bellingen works with all NEOZ charging systems. It is also compatible with the Cordless Lamp Lock, which applies to lamps whose serial number begins with L, for example LA1234.
